Tonight is Halloween! And while the trick and treating and fun is great, we all know that this kicks off the end of year rush.
The holiday season is practically upon us with Thanksgiving less than one month away, to be quickly followed by Christmas. When our teens were young children, the focus was family, school events, and fun. Although school was important then, our teens face stronger academic stressors in high school. Balancing family and fun with completion of academic tasks is critical for our high school teens.
How can we as parents help our teens with the end of year rush? We can help them by talking with them about their obligations in both academic activities and extra-curricular activities. Many teens have projects or reports due prior to semester end; and final exams loom on the horizon for many teens prior to holiday break time. Helping your teen start to organize their time so that they have adequate time to complete studying, school projects, and other activities will benefit him. Learning to manage these stressors will help them as young adults.
And please make sure you as the parent take care of yourself during the holiday rush time. Remember, you are the model of how to balance stressors for your teen.
