Happy the sun has finally come out day. We have had such cloudy weather for days I'm happy to see the sun. So what has been the theme in my office today. As I write this I have seen young adults and not teenagers so far today. What I have heard is about the negative feedback these young women received as kids and especially as teenagers. As a result, today they are having trouble getting on with their lives because they have no sense of self worth. They cannot trust their ability to make decisions that will work out well and as a result they often sabotage those decisions.
We have been talking about critical thinking. Just encouraging and modeling critical thinking may not be enough if at the same time we don't give them enough of a foundation upon which to build their self worth. We all want out children to grow up to be happy and productive adults. I believe we accomplish that more with positive feedback and not so much criticism. I'm not suggesting a return to Pollyanna but this blank slate we get to influence needs more positives than negatives.
Give this some thought. I think it really makes a difference. Sherri
