I really liked Dr. Debra's blog yesterday about helping your teen define success. Too often I see adults that never learned to define their own success and always have felt that they were not "measuring up". If they had received help in defining their own success as a child they would be better about it today.
But that being said today I want to talk about encouraging positive direction in decision making. When we are learning to make decisions we may not always end up at a good place but along the way we did some good things. We may not end up with a "good" decision but we determined correctly the aspects that had to be considered. Sometimes I see people have a good decision making process but they start with faulty information and end up with a decision that will not work out well. If they make a decision that does not work out well we need to use this as a learning opportunity to help them hone their skills.
As the parent of a teenager working on decision making we need to encourage the positive aspects of decision making we see in this manner we assist them in continuing making decisions. Our goal is for them to grow into good decision makers as adults. Work on not allowing this to stress you out too much but to understand that this is a process.
