Yesterday I got off on a tangent so today I will not be so verbose.
Someone, I think it was James Dobson, said in a book that kids need an activity. He reported that his father made him play tennis on a regular basis. It made him angry but he did it and as an adolescent when nothing was right with the world he could play tennis and that is what got him through the unstable time of adolescence; one thing he was good at.
Some of the kids I see have too many activities. They have dance and soccer and piano and church groups etc. The trick is to finding the balance. I worry about the kids that have no time to themselves but I worry more about the ones that have no answer when I ask them about their interests or activities. Hanging with my friends is not sufficient.
So, if you are the parents of younger children please get them into one activity. It may change until you find the fit but they need something to be good at.
A teenager told me one time that High School is a great place for the smart kids, the football players, the band members etc. She said for me, the average kid; I don’t excel at anything, I hate to go there every day. I have never forgotten this.
Help you kids find a gift or talent. Have a great day. Sherri
