Today is Superbowl Sunday. Many people will gather at the homes of friends to watch the Superbowl game. Lots of excitement and money has been expended on preparations for the Superbowl. Your teen probably has been invited to attend a superbowl-watching party somewhere. Lately we have been writing about anxiety and teens – and social anxiety might be peaking today in a teen who thinks he is expected to go to a superbowl event. This would provide an opportunity to talk to your teen about social avoidance. You could help him develop some strategies to deal with his fears. Another important discussion with your teen is the concept of winning and losing – which is definitely discussed with the Superbowl! Try to see how your teen defines those terms and how he sees himself. This would be a good way to get some idea about your teen's view of himself. Good luck! Dr. Debra
