In Dallas CBS news aired a week long program "Take a Stand against Bullying". If you missed this you can go on line to see aspects of this programing. I'm pleased they did this and they did a good job. There has been an effort to teach kids how to respond in a manner to reduce the prospect of bullying. There is now a law to address the issues of bullying. I felt there is still a void in addressing the bullies and their parents directly. In the cases I am aware of when the bully's parents were contacted the bullying ended. Certainly there are situations where this will not be the result but a void in all of this is that most of the attention is on the child who is bullied. Don't misunderstand me they need a great deal of assistance. But doing therapy with many of these children I find it difficult to tell them how to get past this especially when there are few efforts to stop the bullying. We need to be addressing the bully and their families. Even if your child is not a target of a bully or you have no kids in schools the community should pull together to get this issue addressed and that means taking action about the children who bully. There are school shootings and suicides that can be traced back to bullying. In a society where we think we cherish children we need to not sit by and hope someone else will take action. Thank you for listening and please take action. Sherri
